October 4-8

THANK YOU for making Laps for Lincoln a HUGE success.  Every child participated in displaying the Bear Necessities of respect, responsibility, and safety. We also raised money to continue the great things we are able to do through our PTO. Lincoln School is an amazing place and I am so proud to be a part of it with you!


Academic Updates

  • Fun days this week: M&M Monday and National Octopus day on Friday

  • We will be studying th, wh, and ph digraphs

  • Our focus in language will be inside/outside character traits

  • The Positivity Project ideas of the week: being present and giving others my attention

  • In math we will be using the mathematical terms sum and difference, as well as naming and using strategies for addition and subtraction


Computers

As you know, students brought their Chromebooks home on Friday.  We have much more learning to do in terms of how we use them in our grade level.


SJPS provides Chromebooks for student use throughout the school year.  The computers will be collected again in the spring.  Students are expected to have their devices charged and with them each day at school. As part of our curriculum we talk about appropriate use, but adult supervision is key in protecting children. Please monitor your child’s use at home.


To login to the computer, students should enter their student ID number.  Their passwords are all Bears123.


At this point in the year, we have begun using two programs: Lexia and MobyMax.


Here are some things you could do to help make computer time run more smoothly in the classroom:


  1. Practice logging in and out.  The capital B in Bears123 is very tricky. Students will need to know this login information for other programs in addition to simply logging in to their devices.

  2. Bookmark the Lincoln Symbaloo on your child’s device and/or make it their home screen in Google.  I will link the web address on this week’s blog, but if you Google: SJPS symbaloo Lincoln, it will come up.

  3. Practice logging in to Clever.  You will find an icon for this on the Symbaloo.  Once you click it, choose “sign in with Google.”  Once in Clever your student can access Lexia and MobyMax.

  4. Clean up/remove any Kindergarten bookmarks/tabs/classrooms they may have used. 


There will undoubtedly be many questions regarding how to access/use certain things as we proceed through this process.  Feel free to email me, or write your question/concern on a sticky note and place it on your child’s computer.  If you would prefer that your child only brings his/her device home on weekends please feel free to communicate that to me as well.

Week 11 and 12

  Weeks 11 and 12 November 15-23 *Friday, November 19 is a half day. *There is no school November 24-26 in celebration of Thanksgiving. Academic Updates Our Positivity Project theme is gratitude Students will be writing some fun pieces to demonstrate their understanding of sequencing In math we will be working on addition and subtraction fluency within 10 and using strategies to add and subtract within 20 We will focus on ending blends and consonant clusters In our Spinning Sky unit we will be learning about the moon and its phases We will do some fun things for National Disney Day this week Homework Please check your child’s Friday folder and return the writing assignment. Additionally, please be sure your child is reading for at least 20 minutes each day.
