Week 13

  Week 13 November 29- December 3 Welcome back! I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving!  Academic Updates The elements of fiction will take center stage this week as we study the ideas of character, plot, conflict, resolution, and setting. In math we will spend some time working on our understanding of the concept of subtraction as well as fluency. Students will consider the ideas of wants vs. needs. Our positivity project theme this week is kindness. We will continue to enjoy our study of space. General Notes Please be sure to label your Firstie’s outdoor gear.   We will be going outside daily, so please send appropriate supplies-boots, hats, gloves, snowpants, etc. If this presents a problem, please let me or the office know and we will do what we can to make sure your kiddo is ready for fun outside at school. Toys from home should stay at home. Report cards went home on Tuesday, prior to Thanksgiving. Requested Donations There are some supplies we need over the next few weeks.  If

Week 11 and 12

  Weeks 11 and 12 November 15-23 *Friday, November 19 is a half day. *There is no school November 24-26 in celebration of Thanksgiving. Academic Updates Our Positivity Project theme is gratitude Students will be writing some fun pieces to demonstrate their understanding of sequencing In math we will be working on addition and subtraction fluency within 10 and using strategies to add and subtract within 20 We will focus on ending blends and consonant clusters In our Spinning Sky unit we will be learning about the moon and its phases We will do some fun things for National Disney Day this week Homework Please check your child’s Friday folder and return the writing assignment. Additionally, please be sure your child is reading for at least 20 minutes each day. Report Cards Report cards will be coming home prior to Thanksgiving break.  Grades are given on a 1, 2, 3, 4 scale based on Common Core State Standards.  A 3 is the target.  4 means a child has exceeded expectations.  2 indicates th

  Week 10  November 7-12 Reminder that Thursday and Friday are half days.   Academic Updates Our Positivity Project theme this week is bravery We will continue to work on sequencing.   In math we are studying data collection and graphing We will learn more decoding strategies with help from Chunky Monkey We will focus on ending s blends this week Our Spinning Sky unit is in full swing With veterans day this week, we will be making some cards for the veterans breakfast at the high school on Wednesday.   Fun Our thanksgiving luncheon will be on Wednesday. Check out Mr. Hubble's blog for more details. National Origami Day  is November 11.  We will be learning to make some origami in class. 

Week 9

  Week 9 November 1-5 Everybody had a blast at our Halloween Party!  Thank you to everyone who sent in supplies or volunteered with the children!
