Week 4

Week 4 September 27-October 1   Reimers Monday  9-13 Library Tuesday 9-14 Art Wednesday 9-15 Late Start Thursday 9-16 Gym Friday  9-17 Music Academic Updates We wrapped up our NWEA testing last week and are settling into our normal schedule. This week we will continue to extend our stamina in reading plus add in the next component of our Daily 5 routines--Word Work.  We’ve been working on understanding an author’s purpose as well as determining the main idea and supporting details of a text. This is an exciting week in phonics as we begin our study of digraphs.  This week we will unlock the sh and ch sounds.  We are studying addition and subtraction within 20 and working on how we do math centers independently. In Science we will begin our study called “Spinning Sky.”  We will learn about shadows and the sun’s movement this week. Hopefully the sun will shine! Week 3

Reimers Monday  9-13 Library Johnny Appleseed Day observed Back to School Night 6pm (adults only) Tuesday 9-14 Art Wednesday 9-15 Late Start Thursday 9-16 Gym Friday  9-17 Music Academic Updates We are still in a review phase as we continue to develop our routines and procedures. Some things we’ve touched on include short vowels, counting up and back, and skip counting. We’ve learned some cool structures for working collaboratively. There are a great many assessments that occur these first weeks of school, as well.     We are working hard on remembering that there is a place for everything in the classroom and keeping everything in its place.  This is very hard, but we will keep working! Most importantly we are learning about each other and how to get along in a large group of people.  Our word for the upcoming week is: teamwork Ask Your Firstie about…. Week 2

  Reimers Monday  9-13 Library Tuesday 9-14 Art Wednesday 9-15 Late Start Thursday 9-16 Gym Friday  9-17 Music Updates This week we will continue to learn procedures and routines to help make our year run smoothly.  We will begin to learn what Daily 5 looks like in 1st grade as well as math centers and ways to be independent. If you haven’t already done so, please complete the Getting to Know You Survey.  You can find this in Mr. Hubble’s blog post. Please mark your calendar for Back to School Night on Monday, September 20.  This will be a chance for you to see our classroom and hear a bit about what to expect in First Grade. Reminders We have two snacks daily.  It is expected that students bring their own.   It’s going to be hot this week.  Please be sure your child has a water bottle.
