January 17-21

Academic Updates

We will:

  • Do lots of subtraction!

  • Use 10s to subtract

  • Relate counting to addition and subtraction

  • Read and write long i patterns (sight, bike, kite, fight, etc.)

  • Practice making inferences 

  • More editing

  • Write about penguins

  • Learn about perseverance


Masks

Students having been going through a lot of masks lately.  I think they’re easier to misplace since there are so many other things to keep track of this time of year. If possible, please be sure your child has extras in his or her backpack. 


Conferences

I will be emailing out times to conference this week. If you do not receive an email by Friday and you would like to conference, please let me know.


Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day in 1st grade is very low-key, but we do celebrate! We make our Valentines in class, so please DO NOT have your child prepare them at home.  We will have hot chocolate, festive cookies, exchange 

Valentines, and watch a movie.  This is for students only.

  Week 6 October 4-8 Parent-Teacher Conferences I believe I have confirmed a conference time for each family.  I am very excited to meet with you.  I will email you a reminder the day prior to our scheduled meeting time.  If you selected the option to meet virtually I will send you a link in my reminder email. Week 11 and 12

  Weeks 11 and 12 November 15-23 *Friday, November 19 is a half day. *There is no school November 24-26 in celebration of Thanksgiving. Academic Updates Our Positivity Project theme is gratitude Students will be writing some fun pieces to demonstrate their understanding of sequencing In math we will be working on addition and subtraction fluency within 10 and using strategies to add and subtract within 20 We will focus on ending blends and consonant clusters In our Spinning Sky unit we will be learning about the moon and its phases We will do some fun things for National Disney Day this week Homework Please check your child’s Friday folder and return the writing assignment. Additionally, please be sure your child is reading for at least 20 minutes each day. Report Cards Report cards will be coming home prior to Thanksgiving break.  Grades are given on a 1, 2, 3, 4 scale based on Common Core State Standards.  A 3 is the target.  4 means a child has exceeded expectatio...
