  Week 15 December 13-17 Dress Up Days Monday: Wear white-Snowman Day Tuesday: Wear red-Rudolph Day Wednesday: Wear green-Grinch Day Thursday: Ugly Sweater Day Friday: Dress like an Elf Day Holiday Party Our holiday party will be on Friday, December 17, from 11:30-12:30.    The class will enjoy a festive snack in the afternoon.  Check out my email for more details. Winter Gear Hopefully we will have snow on the ground soon.  When we do, our gear storage becomes quite an issue.  It would be very helpful if you could please label your student’s gear.  It also helps quite a lot to have large reusable shopping bags to store snow pants, hats, and gloves throughout the day.  Things to practice over winter break Shoe tying Putting on snow gear Writing-a packet is coming home!   Week 14 December 6-10 Academic Updates We will learn about Sneaky E in words such as snake, rake, ride, slide, etc. Students will read a variety of fictional pieces as we continue to study character, plot, setting, conflict, and resolution. In math we will work on adding and subtracting ten as a unit. Our positivity project theme this week is knowing that our words and actions affect others. Families, traditions, and the ideas of goods and services will be our social studies focus.  Ice Skating Field Trip On Wednesday, December 8, we will walk to the ice rink for the delightful Lincoln tradition of ice skating.  Parents are welcome to join us at the rink–we can always use a hand getting all those laces tied! We will be skating from 12:45-1:25. Hot chocolate will be provided for our walk back.  Although the timing will be adjusted we will still have 2 snacks plus lunch at school.  Holiday Party Our holiday party will be on Friday, December 17, from 11:30-12:30....

  Week 13 November 29- December 3 Welcome back! I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving!  Academic Updates The elements of fiction will take center stage this week as we study the ideas of character, plot, conflict, resolution, and setting. In math we will spend some time working on our understanding of the concept of subtraction as well as fluency. Students will consider the ideas of wants vs. needs. Our positivity project theme this week is kindness. We will continue to enjoy our study of space. General Notes Please be sure to label your Firstie’s outdoor gear.   We will be going outside daily, so please send appropriate supplies-boots, hats, gloves, snowpants, etc. If this presents a problem, please let me or the office know and we will do what we can to make sure your kiddo is ready for fun outside at school. Academic Updates Our Positivity Project theme is gratitude Students will be writing some fun pieces to demonstrate their understanding of sequencing In math we will be working on addition and subtraction fluency within 10 and using strategies to add and subtract within 20 We will focus on ending blends and consonant clusters In our Spinning Sky unit we will be learning about the moon and its phases We will do some fun things for National Disney Day this week Homework Please check your child’s Friday folder and return the writing assignment. Additionally, please be sure your child is reading for at least 20 minutes each day. Report Cards Report cards will be coming home prior to Thanksgiving break.  Grades are given on a 1, 2, 3, 4 scale based on Common Core State Standards.  A 3 is the target.  4 means a child has exceeded expectatio...

  Week 8 October 25-29 Academic Updates Our Positivity Project theme this week is curiosity We will be doing our first reader’s theater of the year In math we continue to solve story problems using numbers within 10, finding the missing sum, relating addition to subtraction, and explaining the equal sign We will learn more decoding strategies with help from Eagle Eye and Lips the Fish We will focus on r blends this week (pr, br, tr, fr, cr, etc.) There will be a number of fun activities this week as we enjoy some Halloween fun  Ask Your Firstie about…. Where they store their belongings at school Forgiveness What is means to do whole body listening When to use a period Halloween Party Our classroom party will be Friday, October 29 from 1:20-2:05.  The school-wide parade will be at 3:15 outside on the blacktop/playground area.
